Univision’s KMEX-TV Dominates The LA TV Landscape.

According to the February 2004 NSI demographic ratings just released by Nielsen Media Research, Univision flagship station KMEX-TV, Channel 34 again ranked as the top station in Los Angeles, regardless of language, in average audience for all key demographics, including Adults 18-34, 18-49, 25-49 and 25-54 (based on average ratings, Monday to Sunday: 6 am to 2 am). This marks the fourth consecutive Nielsen “sweeps” that KMEX-TV has ranked as L.A.’s top rated station, following its success in November 2003, July 2003, and May 2003.

KMEX-TV was L.A.’s highest rated station for many key dayparts and demographics. Demographic ratings highlights from the February NSI survey (February 5 to March 3, 2004) include the following:

” KMEX-TV continues to rank first during the 6 pm to 7 pm weekday news hour, with both its local newscast, “Noticias 34” (News 34) and network news, “Noticiero Univision” (Univision News) posting higher ratings among all key demographics (Adults 18-34, 18-49, 25-49 and 25-54) than their English-language competitors. “Noticias 34” has now ranked first at 6 pm among Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49 for forty (40) consecutive Nielsen “Sweeps” (covering ten years, since May 1994).
” The 11 pm weekday edition of “Noticias 34″ was the highest rated late newscast in Los Angeles among Adults 18-34 and 18-49, averaging higher ratings than its English-language competition on KABC-TV, KNBC-TV, KCBS-TV and KCOP-TV, as well as the 10 pm newscasts on KTLA-TV, KTTV and KCAL-TV.

” In the important prime access time period (M-F: 7 pm to 8 pm), KMEX-TV with its popular novela, “Amar Otra Vez” (To Love Again), averaged higher ratings among all key demographics than every English-language station including KTTV (“King of Queens”/”The Simpsons”), KTLA-TV (“Friends”/”Everybody Loves Raymond”), KCOP-TV (“That ’70s Show”/”Seinfeld), KNBC-TV (“Extra”/”Access Hollywood”), KCAL-TV (“Family Feud”/”Hollywood Squares”), KABC-TV (“Jeopardy”/”Wheel of Fortune”), and KCBS-TV (“Entertainment Tonight”/”Millionaire”).

” KMEX-TV was also the highest rated station in early fringe among all key demographics. KMEX-TV’s popular line-up of “El Gordo y la Flaca,” (Thick and Thin) and the newsmagazine, “Primer Impacto” (First Impact) outperformed its English-language competition in average viewership.

” In primetime, KMEX-TV averaged higher ratings than all of L.A.’s English-language stations among Adults 18-34, and ranked second (to KTTV) among Adults 18-49.

” KMEX-TV’s “Primera Edición” (First Edition) (M-F: 6 am to 7 am) was the highest rated early morning local newscast in its time period among Adults 18-34 and tied for first among Adults 18-49.

” In daytime, KMEX-TV averaged higher ratings than its English-language counterparts among Adults 18-34 and 18-49.
