Upfront Day 4: Fox Sports World Español Closes The Week.
April 20, 2002
Fox Sports World Español will add more big events to its year-round coverage of South America football leagues, baseball, boxing and round-the-clock sports newscasts. The announcement was made by David Sternberg, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Fox Sports World Español during the network’s advertising sales upfront presentation.
Following a successful year that was capped by the network’s exclusive Spanish-language broadcast of the Major League Baseball postseason, Fox Sports World Español will add more than 300 hours of first-run sports content when it debuts the pan-regional football tournament, Copa Panamericana in August. Copa Panamericana fuses popular tournaments Copa Mercosur and Copa Merconorte into one tournament showcasing 32 of the best club teams from the Americas, including four from Mexico and two from the U.S.
Copa Toyota Libertadores, another high-profile club tournament, will run its complete course on Fox Sports World Español beginning in February 2003 with more than 126 matches featuring 32 professional club teams from Mexico and South America. Fox Sports World Español has televised select mid-week matches of the 2002 Copa Toyota Libertadores eliciting an enthusiastic response from viewers.
“Fox Sports World Español will build upon its successes by bringing even more quality, high-profile sporting events to Latino sports fans throughout the year”, stated Sternberg. “The addition of Copa Panamericana and Copa Libertadores, two prestigious football events, complement our core of sports programming to deliver more hours of mid-week events, thereby increasing the number of viewing hours throughout the entire year.”
Returning to Fox Sports World Español is season-long coverage of popular football leagues from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, England, Honduras and Mexico; baseball from the Caribbean and Major League Baseball postseason; professional boxing from both Mexico’s Cinturón de Oro and the domestic, Boxeo Profesional; daily sports newscasts Score Final and Fox Sports Noticias from Mexico and Argentina, respectively and original productions like Fox Futbol Show tailored to the specific interests of the network’s diverse audience.
