U.S. Army celebrates 5 De Mayo with the launch of Leaders Among Us Program.
April 7, 2008
Hundreds of thousands of Latinos who attended the Dallas Cinco de Mayo Festival at Texas Stadium witnessed the launch of the United States Army ‘Leaders Among Us’ (LAU) program, which provides Latino youth with information on how the U.S. Army can prepare them for success, now and in the future. Continuing LAU events will be held at select Latino festivals in Houston, San Antonio, New York, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico, from May through September 2008.
The LAU program features a 100 ft. x 100 ft. interactive “Strength to Succeed” experience area at each festival, which highlights the career and educational opportunities available to Soldiers. Additional activities within the experience area include a robotics obstacle course, a fitness area — where participants can compete against active Army Soldiers — a customized H2 vehicle, video game kiosks, and a “Soldier’s Story” gallery that showcases Latino Soldier Heroes from around the U.S.
‘Leaders Among Us’ was created to inform the Hispanic youth of America about the career and educational opportunities in the Army
“Leaders Among Us” was created to inform the Hispanic youth of America about the career and educational opportunities in the Army,” said Colonel David Lee, Director, G-7 Strategic Communications, Marketing & Outreach U.S. Army Accessions Command. “U.S. Army Soldiers are mentally, emotionally and physically strong. From educational kiosks to physical training areas to technology modules consisting of robots and simulators used in the Army, we highlight the values and advanced technology that makes our Soldiers the best in the world.
