U.S Spending On Children’s Clothing.

Scarborough Research released an analysis of spending patterns of consumers who have one or more school-age children in their household. The analysis finds that consumers in Des Moines, IA, New York, and Boston are spending more money annually on average for children’s clothing than consumers nationally. Des Moines adults with school-age children in their household who bought children’s clothing during the past year spent on average $298 on these purchases. This is $36 more than the national average of $262. New York ($297); Boston ($294), Jacksonville, FL, and Memphis, TN ($291 each) and Hartford, CT ($288) round out the top local markets for children’s clothing purchasers.
Nike is the top sports apparel brand for consumers with school-age children, as 38 percent of these consumers purchased Nike clothing during the past year. People with school-age children in the household are 43 percent more likely than all consumers to have made a Nike purchase. Adidas (19 percent), Reebok (17 percent), Champion (8 percent), and Russell Athletic (7 percent) round out the top athletic apparel brands for people with school-age children in the household.
