Venevision International turns to New Media In 2009.

Venevision International launched the entertainment portal NOVULU (to distribute directly to consumers films, music, mobile and television content from the company, with the appropriate right’s administration tools), re-launched VVI’s online stores, updated all of its websites and established the Venevision International channel on YouTube, implementing the vision of an executive that has transformed the Coral Gables-based company (Miami, Florida, USA).

Luis Villanueva, the company’s President & CEO, declares that “following the strategy of our Chairman and CEO, Gustavo Cisneros, we have decided to initiate in 2009 the most significant transformation this company has undergone in recent years. Not long ago, Venevision International repositioned itself from a traditional distributor of television programming to an entertainment company, which led to its incursion into new markets, such as the production of television programming, film distribution, music production and distribution (Vene Music & Siente Music), production and distribution of mobile entertainment and web content (Venemobile & LatCel), music publishing (copyright administration), and Pay-TV television channels (VeneMovies & Semillitas). Today, the company undertakes its most profound technological challenge as it confronts the new frontier and solidifies its foundation for long-term stability.”

The new strategy of Venevision International begins with the launch of its new entertainment portal NOVULU (www.novulu.com), which distributes content directly to the consumer and centralizes the company’s different websites. “NOVULU,” informs Luis Villanueva, “makes our content available to consumers worldwide via downloads or physical product, from television programs, music, movies, and mobile entertainment, utilizing current territorial rights administration tools to ensure compliance with existing contractual commitments. This portal, which includes community elements such as ratings, comments, recommendations and links with other services such as Facebook, MySpace and others, looks to advertising as well as direct sales of content for revenue-generation and in this sense it will spearhead our new media ventures. In NOVULU,” states Luis Villanueva, “we accomplished a look-and-feel that is modern, clean and very inviting, which we believe will become one of the principal portals for Spanish-language entertainment on the Internet, as much as from the Cisneros Group as from third parties.”

“Venevision International,” states Luis Villanueva, “unites this way the most modern with the traditional media, where it has already proven its excellence.” Surely to maintain this innovative spirit, this executive, who has demonstrated no fear of venturing into new areas with a successful track record, confronts the challenge that all entertainment companies face today. “The best way to approach change is not by avoiding it,” concludes Luis Villanueva, “instead we need to work with new tendencies; understanding that with technology there is no turning back.”
