The 2004 MTV VMALAs gift bag completes the 360º approach into the Latin American creative market. This year’s show took place October 21, 2004 at the Jackie Gleason Theater and provided celebrities with a gift bag that features up and coming Latin American fashion designers such as Mexico’s Ecoist Handbags and NaCo brand clothing; Peruvian jewelry designer Citrine by the Stones; Argentine clothing designer Furia; and Venezuelan swimsuit designer Carlos Mora.

Paulina Rubio, Lenny Kravitz, Black Eyed Peas, The Rasmus, Beastie Boys, Alejandro Sanz, Juanes, Julieta Venegas, Carmen Electra and Natalia Lafourcade are just a few of the celebrities who received the custom designed celebrity gift bag.

Ecoist Handbags and NaCo clothing will represent Mexico’s creative style. Marisa Rey is the artist and designer behind the entire line of Ecoist handbags, which are hand-made from recycled materials such as candy wrappers, food packages, and soft drink labels, among other earth friendly recyclables.

NaCo is a clothing company dedicated to designing and producing innovative quality products that represent the humor in its concept: ‘Through somebody’s eyes we are all nacos and we endorse the idea of stating who you are with confidence and style.’ Diego Luna, Juanes, Gustavo Cerati, Kinky, Molotov and Café Tacvba are some of the artists that support NaCo products.

Citrine by the Stones are a Miami-based jewelry design trio that includes Joanne Stone, Mary Stone, and Michelle Stone. Inspired by art, travel and the idea of understated style, this Peruvian family team is creating handmade feminine jewelry that has been adorned by celebs such as Cameron Diaz, Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, Jennifer Lopez and Nicole Ritchie.

Designers Furia and Kosiuko will distinguish Argentine fashion in the VMALA gift bag. Furia is experimental, fresh and politically incorrect with its European flavor and fourth world attitude. Furia’s designer, Guillermo Tragant, has been in highly recognized internationally by Loft Magazine in the US, NEO2 in Spain and Rolling Stone Magazine Argentina, among others. Some celebrity supporters include legendary musician Charly Garcia and Argentine celeb Leo Garcia.

Newcomer Carlos Mora has already made his mark in Miami. Most recently, his designs were introduced on MTV Latin America’s Fashionista (MTV’s Fashionably Loud) event in Mexico. Mora has worked closely with this year’s MTV VMALA host Paulina Rubio creating a custom-made swimsuit that reflects her unique style. In his hometown of Venezuela, Mora has styled the Miss Venezuela pageant as well as various fashion shoots for Ocean Drive Magazine Venezuela.

This year’s VMALA host, Paulina Rubio, received personalized items by Ash Rana, Inc., Amores, Susila Tantrik, Carolina K and Casa Blanca Fashion Group.
