WAPA America On Comcast.
March 25, 2005
LIN TV Corp. announced that WAPA-America, LIN TV’s Hispanic programming service for satellite and cable distribution in the United States, has signed an affiliation agreement with Comcast Cable. The multi-year agreement enables WAPA-America to pursue distribution with Comcast systems in the United States. WAPA-America has already begun discussions in this regard.
Programmed out of WAPA-TV, LIN TV’s television station in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the service includes current local news and the most popular locally produced entertainment programming in Puerto Rico, as well as classic programming from WAPA’s extensive prime time library.
Gary R. Chapman, LIN TV’s Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, said: “It is fitting that the number-one Puerto Rican programming service in the U.S. has reached an affiliation agreement with the nation’s leading cable operator. WAPA-America has proven to be of enormous value, allowing the Puerto Rican community and other Spanish-speaking viewers to enjoy the same programming that has made WAPA-TV the most popular and important station in Puerto Rico. We look forward to the opportunity to offer the service to Comcast’s systems.”
“Comcast is excited about new programming content that meets the needs of our diverse, multi-cultural audiences,” said David Jensen, vice president of international programming at Comcast. “WAPA America offers outstanding programs for the Puerto Rican community, and we look forward to working with this strong new programming partner.”
