Telemundo unveiled a partnership to provide viewers of 11 Telemundo stations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico with precise, real-time local weather information.
The AWS WeatherNet network is now supplying local weather data to Telemundo stations in Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Fresno, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Phoenix, San Francisco, Tucson, and Puerto Rico for use in their weathercasts. WeatherNet, the largest and most granular weather network in North America, includes more than 6,000 weather monitoring stations, based
mostly at schools.
In addition, AWS and Telemundo also announced they will soon launch a Spanish-language edition of AWS’ award-winning educational program, WeatherNet Classroom, for Hispanic students in these markets. WeatherNet Classroom is a Web-based program that turns students into budding meteorologists. It is a powerful vehicle that helps educators increase student achievement in math and science.
“Telemundo’s commitment to providing viewers with local news and weather has just gotten stronger with AWS’ real-time local data,” said Ibra Morales, President, Telemundo Station Group. “It has helped the NBC owned and operated stations define their weather coverage and we are excited to extend this same information to Telemundo viewers. In addition, we look forward to helping to improve student achievement in the markets we serve as we roll out the Spanish edition WeatherNet Classroom program,” added Morales.
