WESH 2 & La Prensa announce partnership.
May 1, 2006
WESH 2 will provide weather content to La Prensa — Central Florida beginning June 1. The announcement was made jointly by WESH 2 President and General Manager Bill Bauman and La Prensa Editor/Publisher Dora Toro.
WESH 2 will provide weekly weather predictions along with an “Ask Ivan” question of the week directed to the Orlando NBC affiliate’s newest meteorologist, Ivan Cabrera, who speaks English and Spanish fluently. (His WESH 2 on-air debut is also June 1.) Cabrera, 33, was most recently based in Boston, where he was a national Fox News Channel meteorologist who also provided Hispanic weathercasts for NYI News in New York City, Bay News 9 in Tampa and News 8 in Austin for WSI Corp.
WESH 2 Meteorologist Amy Sweezey has also contributed an article in the newspaper’s annual hurricane guide, which summarizes what she learned at the recent National Hurricane Conference.
“Our La Prensa partnership and the decision to add a top-notch, bilingual meteorologist to our experienced WESH 2 Weather Plus Storm Center Team as we enter the 2006 hurricane season are important steps in our efforts to better serve the growing Latino community in Central Florida,” said Bauman. “And they’re key elements of a larger Hispanic initiative WESH 2 is launching this month.”
