WGEN – Channel 8 in South Florida achieves ratings results during its first sweeps.
November 11, 2006
GENTV (WGEN) Channel 8— the new, local, Spanish-language television station by Caracol Television— which launched in South Florida only two months ago, announced first-time results for the quarterly sweeps. The station’s reality series and first U.S. run production, Desafío (Challenge) 20.06 performed exceptionally well, becoming GENTV-8’s primetime leader. The comical También Caerás (You’ll also Fall), came in at a strong second for the station. Their highest performance among viewers was with Adults 25-54, and closely followed by the elusive Adults 18-49 age group.
Committed to bringing a heightened level of quality programming to Hispanic viewers in South Florida, GENTV-8’s primetime success in such a short period can be attributed to its novel shows that have real relevance to Hispanics. Desafío 20.06, an adventure reality show that exposes a territorial battle through spectacular and original games, includes cast members from South Florida. The original series proved to be GENTV-8’s primetime leader reaching a notable 2.9 rating, with a weekly average of 2.3 among Adults 25-54. Among Adults 18-49, Desafío 20.06 achieved a 2.7 rating mid week, and averaged an overall 2.1 rating.
Closely following Desafío 20.06 was GENTV-8’s hidden camera show, También Caerás, reaching a 2.5 rating, with a weekly average of 2.0 among Adults 25-54. The show was also well received among Adults 18-49 viewers, attaining a 2.3 rating mid week with a 1.8 overall rating.
“We are very pleased with the results of our first quarterly book measuring October, stated Lourdes Diaz, Executive Vice-President Sales and Marketing, GENTV-8. With only a few weeks on the air, we were able to achieve notable results.”
Since its September 18, 2006 launch, GENTV-8 has been delivering a fresh and reviving programming schedule, recognizing the evolution of South Florida’s Spanish-language television audience. With its original programming and high production quality television shows, GENTV-8 parallels the excellence of general market standards. For 2007, the station will launch more exciting new shows to continue their upward track to becoming one of the most watched Hispanic television stations in the South Florida market.
