WNJU 47 ‘El Clon’ & ‘Protagonistas’ A Hit In NYC.

With the conclusion of the May 2002 rating sweep by Nielsen Media Research, WNJU continued to grow in key time periods and gain ground on WXTV. With such popular programs as “Sala De Parejas” and “Laura en América,” WNJU is a very competitive station among all broadcasters in New York.

At 2PM, “Sala De Parejas,” a court show in the style of “People’s Court” showed terrific gains over May 2001 and beat WXTV’s novela “Sin Pecado Cocebido.” “Sala De Parejas” 1.7 rating increased +150% over last May, and held a 55 share of the Spanish-language audience, up from a 38 share. “Sala De Parejas” outdelivered other high profile programs in general market such as “Seventh Heaven” on WPIX and “Moesha/Sister Sister” on WWOR.

At 4PM, “Laura en América,” remains a powerful performer with 1.8 rating and a 47 share of Spanish-language audience. “Laura en América,” tied WCBS’ “Weakest Link” and beat other programs such as WNYW’s “Divorce Court”, WWOR’s “Blind Date/Shipmates” as well as WNYW’s “Judge Hatchett.”

“Al Rojo Vivo”, Telemundo’s new 5P news magazine starring the former Univision anchor Maria Celeste Arraras had a terrific first book, beating the perennial powerhouse “Primer Impacto” on WXTV. “Al Rojo” had a 1.9 rating and 53 share of Spanish language viewing. This is a 12% increase in rating over May 2001. “Al Rojo Vivo” also tied with WWOR’s “Ricki Lake.”

In Prime Time, “El Clon,” the critically praised novela from GloboTV in Brazil, saw its rating rise to a 2.4 (up 9% over 2001) and bring in a 38 share of the Spanish language audience. Spanish television’s first foray into primetime reality also proved very successful. “Protagonistas,” a limited-run reality novela, posted a 2.1 rating (17% over the time period last May), and a 30 share of Spanish language viewing.

The dynamic one-two punch of “Laura” and Maria Celeste in “Al Rojo Vivo” made late night shine for WNJU. Both programs have had large increases versus May 2001. At 1130PM, “Laura,” with a 2.0 rating is up +67% while “Al Rojo Vivo” at 1230AM was up +300%, posting a 1.1 rating. “Laura” outdelivered programming on WNYW and WWOR.

On a sign-on to sign-off basis, WNJU came in at a 1.0 rating and gained 11%.
