WNJU-TV Kept Latinos Informed During The Trade.

The ongoing search, rescue, and recovery efforts in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the US were the sole subject of WNJU-TV/Telemundo 47’s continuous news coverage programming throughout six consecutive days. In spite of experiencing the loss of its transmitter, which had been located atop the World Trade Center until Tuesday morning, the Telemundo station managed to distribute its signal and provide more than 90 hours of live local news coverage to virtually all parts of Hispanic New York. Unlike all the other local television stations, which relied heavily on their network news operations for additional coverage and relief, WNJU-TV, (whose network news operation is based in Hialeah, Florida,) was the only local news organization in New York to provide the vast majority of its own coverage to the Telemundo network across the US and around the world via the Telemundo Internacional and Gems/mun2 cable networks.

“We decided to dedicate all of our airtime to continuing coverage so that the Hispanic communities of New York can be kept fully informed and up to date. Whether recently arrived or born here, all Hispanics feel a great sense of pride in being New Yorkers and Americans. Our news team has been doing a tremendous job in helping each and every one of them to find a way to keep their American dreams alive,” commented Ramon Pineda, VP and General Manager of WNJU-TV. “Now, more than ever, it’s important for the entire New York community to pull together. We are fully committed to being the voice of and source for the Hispanic community in this time of great challenges,” he added.
