WNJU-TV Telemundo New York Switches Antennas.

Telemundo 47 WNJU, with the cooperation of the Empire State Building, flipped the switch on 2 new antennas. With 1.5 Million Watts (ERP) of power, WNJU will broadcast its signal from 1,100 feet atop the Empire State Building. One antenna will be in the North East corner, the second one will be in the South West corner of the building. The Empire State antenna is expected to significantly improve reception for WNJU’s over-the-air viewers, whose broadcast signal had been adversely impacted by the World Trade Center collapse.

We would like to thank the Empire State Building for helping WNJU to continue to serve the community by reaching out to more viewers, providing high quality programming and keeping the public informed on current local news and events.

“We expect that the Empire State location and its proximity to the five (5) boroughs will help us provide a stronger signal to more Hispanic households in the metropolitan area,” said Ramon Pineda VP & General Manager.

Immediately following the September 11 attacks, WNJU along with five other stations in the market began broadcasting from the Alpine Communications Tower in Alpine, NJ. WNJU intends to keep the Alpine antenna as a back-up location.
