World Football Challenge most viewed Soccer on Spanish-language Cable in 2009.

The 2009 World Football Challenge – which concluded on Sunday, July 26 with Chelsea FC defeating Club America 2-0 – was a slam dunk for ESPN Deportes, averaging a 3.3 Hispanic rating and 152,000 households.

ESPN Deportes’ AC Milan vs. Club America telecast on Sunday, July 22 was the highest-rated program on Spanish-language cable during the month of July delivering a 6.2 Hispanic rating and 282,000 Hispanic households. Chelsea vs. Club America telecast on Sunday, July 26 trailed that telecast, delivering a 4.7 Hispanic rating and 216,000 households. These two games were the most watched international soccer friendies on Spanish-language cable in 2009.

ESPN Deportes, in conjunction with ESPN2 and ESPN360.com, presented live coverage of all six matches of the World Football Challenge, the six-city round-robin tournament in the U.S. from July 19 – 26, featuring four of the best club soccer teams in the world – Chelsea FC, AC Milan, FC Internazionale Milano and Club América. ESPN Deportes also produced SportsCenter and Fútbol Picante live from the Cowboy Stadium for the final game of the Challenge, Chelsea vs. America on Sunday, July 26. The network offered exclusive, live Spanish-language coverage of the six matches of the Challenge featuring the commentary and analysis of the network’s soccer experts Daniel “El Ruso” Brailovsky, Jose Hernandez, Oscar Restrepo and Richard Mendez.
