Spanish-language UHF-TV station Univision 41 (WXTV) here has set yet another ratings record for Spanish-language TV in New York. Univision 41 has scored its highest 11 pm news ranking ever, finishing second in New York’s 11 pm news race for the first time ever, beating local news on not only WCBS-TV Channel 2 but also Disney- owned WABC-TV Channel 7. Not only did Univision 41 finish second in 11 pm news race, but it also finished second in the 11 pm to 11:30 pm weekday time period, the first time a Spanish-language TV station has ever accomplished that feat in New York with regularly scheduled programming.
Monday, July 15, 2002, “Noticias 41” (Channel 41 News) with anchors Rafael Pineda and Denisse Oller, scored an amazing 4.5 Nielsen Station Index (NSI) rating and 9 share both to finish second in the 11 pm to 11:30 pm time period and in New York’s 11 pm local TV news race. “Noticias 41” beat both “Eyewitness News” on WABC-TV Channel 7, which scored a 3.7/7 NSI rating/share, and “CBS 2 Nightcast” on WCBS-TV Channel 2. The latter scored 4.3/8 NSI. In the time period “Noticias 41” trailed only “NewsChannel 4” on WNBC Channel 4, and only by a fraction of a rating point. “NewsChannel 4 scored 4.9/9 NSI.
Each New York Nielsen Station Index rating point represents 73,010.6 TV households.
