Zumbando con Kellogg’s Fitness Program.
January 2, 2004
Zumbando con Kellogg’s, the new Latin-dance inspired fitness craze which has motivated thousands of Americans to stay fit to cumbia and salsa rhythms, has partnered with Miami-Dade County’s Mayor Alex Penelas to launch The Mayor’s Health and Fitness Challenge.
Zumbando con Kellogg’s and Mayor Penelas invited 5,000 corporate members to take the Mayor’s Challenge at its First Annual Corporate Challenge Kick-Off in downtown’s Wachovia Financial Center Plaza.
“Support from all sectors of the community, including corporations is critical to make ‘The Challenge’ a success and ensure a more healthy Miami,” said Mayor Alex Penelas. “We commend Kellogg for demonstrating its leadership on this issue.”
As part of The Mayor’s Corporate Challenge Kick-Off, a major component to the Mayor’s Health and Fitness Challenge, the Wachovia Financial Center Plaza hosted “Lunch-time Zumba.” Between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Wachovia and surrounding downtown employees had the opportunity to participate in a special interactive Zumba demonstration; various health fair presentations and free screenings; and received Kellogg’s Special K Red Berries giveaways.
Employees are also encouraged to help generate their corporations’ support to provide a coordinated fitness program and to expand upon their existing wellness programs. Participating corporations will host one “Fitness Focus” event per month for a four-month period (February-May), which will consist of Zumba classes, nutritional chats, walking programs, promotions and Kellogg’s giveaways.
“We are proud to work hand in hand with Mayor Penelas in promoting fitness that is fun and appeals to people of all ages,” said Angel Colón, senior manager, ethnic marketing for Kellogg. “Zumbando con Kellogg’s perfectly demonstrates the vibrant spirit and style that makes Miami famous.”
