HHS’ Administration for Children and Families (ACF), in partnership with the Adoption Exchange Association, the Collaboration to Adoptuskids and the Advertising Council, launched a national Spanish-language advertising campaign to promote adoption from foster care.

Support For Tougher Indecency Measures.

Americans have ambivalent views about the appropriate role for government in curbing sex, violence and indecency in the entertainment media. They have doubts about the effectiveness of government action, and believe that public pressure ­ in the form of complaints and boycotts ­ is a better way of dealing with the problem. They also blame audiences more than the media industry for objectionable material. Significantly, Americans see greater danger in the government’s imposing undue restrictions on the entertainment industry, than in the industry producing harmful content (by 48% vs. 41%).

Once Again Heineken & Celia Cruz Foundation Team Up.

As part of this year’s Billboard Latin Music Awards Show and Conference, Heineken USA will once again put into action the Heineken Green Ribbons Initiative. The program is a national effort to raise awareness and funds to support music education programs and emerging artists in Hispanic communities across the country. For the third consecutive year, a donation will be made by Heineken USA to the Celia Cruz Foundation.

Adults over 65 are more than twice as likely to die in a fire, making fire prevention and education essential to their safety. But the lack of fire safety materials in Spanish leaves Hispanic seniors especially vulnerable.

AOL Latino & Berlitz Partner To Offer English Lessons Online.

AOL Latino and Berlitz Languages, Inc., announced that they have joined forces to offer multiple ways for AOL members to learn English at no extra charge. While Spanish dominant and Spanish preferred bilingual Hispanics equal more than 65% of the 40 million Hispanics in the U.S., this special offer provides this growing segment a cost effective and easy way to learn English. And, according to a recent poll on the AOL Latino service, 78% of respondents are interested in taking online English lessons.

Chicano/Latino Leaders Call for New Master Plan For Education In California.

In efforts to decrease the underrepresentation of Hispanics in community colleges and universities in California, Latino Education leaders will urge the State Legislature for changes in the Master Plan for Education and a chance for undocumented students to receive government grants to attend institutions of higher education.
