Support for Roe vs. Wade declines.

The Harris Poll has been measuring attitudes toward the Roe vs. Wade decision legalizing abortion ever since it was decided by the Supreme Court in 1973. During the 33 years since then, Harris Polls found majorities, between 52 and 65 percent of all U.S. adults, in favor of Roe vs. Wade. Now, a new Harris Poll finds that Roe vs. Wade is supported only by a slender 49 percent to 47 percent plurality. In other words, support and opposition are almost equal.

Americans look into the Crystal Ball: What is likely to happen in the next 10 years?

A new Harris Poll finds that about half of all U.S. adults think it is likely or very likely that there will be a major new war involving many American soldiers (52%) a major terrorist attack like 9/11 in the United States (49%) in the next 10 years. Slightly fewer adults (45%) think that it is likely or very likely that Social Security benefits will be eliminated or sharply reduced, while slightly more than one-third (35%) think it likely or very likely that we will see a woman become president.

More people trust the media than their governments, especially in developing countries, according to a ten-country opinion poll for the BBC, Reuters, and The Media Center.

Media is trusted by an average of 61 percent compared to 52 percent for governments across the countries polled. But the US bucked the trend — with government ahead of media on trust (67% vs 59%) along with Britain (51% vs 47%).

The large majority of Latino immigrants consider the events of this past May first, called the “Great American Stop” or “A Day Without an Immigrant”, which included an economic boycott, rallies and people not assisting work or school, a success, according to a survey released by Garcia Research Associates.

In fact, wine consumption among Hispanics is increasing more than any other ethnic group. According to a survey conducted by Wine Market Council, 31 percent of Hispanic wine drinkers are consuming more wine now than they were during the last few years, while only 11 percent of Caucasians say the same.

About 1-in-every-3 U.S. residents was part of a group other than single-race non-Hispanic white — according to national estimates by race, Hispanic origin and age released today by the U.S. Census Bureau. In 2005, the nation’s minority population totaled 98 million, or 33 percent, of the country’s total of 296.4 million.

In launching comScore World Metrix, the company announced that 694 million people, age 15 +, used the Internet worldwide from all locations in March 2006, representing 14 percent of the world’s total population within this age group. This number marks the first worldwide universe estimate based on a consistent methodology across all countries.
