Digital Life in 2025 [REPORT]

This report is the latest research report in a sustained effort throughout 2014 by the Pew Research Center to mark the 25th anniversary of the creation of the World Wide Web by Sir Tim Berners-Lee. He wrote a paper on March 12, 1989 proposing an “information management” system that became the conceptual and architectural structure for the Web.  He eventually released the code for his system  — for free — to the world on Christmas Day in 1990. It became a milestone in easing the way for ordinary people to access documents and interact over the Internet — a system that linked computers and that had been around for years.

Is SXSWi Actually More Relevant Than Ever Now?

If you’re headed to South by Southwest Interactive this weekend, as I am, there’s a very good chance that you’re complaining about it. It’s too big and corporate. It’s full of — shocker! — marketers instead of geeks now. It’s been impossible to get housing downtown unless you’re willing to sell a kidney on Craigslist. The Driskill Hotel won’t be fun for late-night drinks anymore because some sports marketers have taken over the whole place. You know the drill.  I’ve been going to SXSWi for years, and I agree that some of those complaints are legit. I don’t like waiting in line for breakfast tacos, and I don’t like booking insanely overpriced hotel rooms that are a 10-minute drive from the Convention Center, either. Still, I’ll confess: I like the fact that the chaos makes us think about attention. There are some lessons for us all to learn about confronting the inconveniences of representing a brand in a chaotic space. (And why not learn these things when there are open bars everywhere?)

How Do Brands define Success on Mobile Video?

As the mobile ecosystem explodes, entertainment brands of all sizes are looking for ways to utilize the channel to deliver their messages and build demand. When delivered with the right technology, with the right content, to the right audience, mobile video advertising can deliver impact even greater than television advertising.

A New Approach to the App Marketing Mix

Millennials – and younger ones in particular – are voracious content consumers across all media channels – television, online, games, apps and mobile. These teens are an attractive demographic that marketers are eager to capture through traditional and emerging channels alike. The greatest opportunity comes by creating and leveraging connections between the channels teens rely on, and nowhere is that truer than the screens that matter most: television and mobile devices. Unfortunately, few have figured out how to drive measurable cross-screen engagement. That needs to change and there are early signs that change is beginning.

Coming off the heels of 2013, programmatic buying, native advertising and viewability all remain topical to digital display advertisers, particularly brands. Just last year, these distinct trends might have seemed like isolated enhancements. When viewed in totality, however, they reflect an advertising landscape that is evolving to provide brands a richer storytelling experience among a more engaged audience—wherever that audience might be.

Branded Content Marketing: Help Wanted

Marketers want content, but they need lots of help.
