Nearly one-half of U.S. media consumers are frequently creating online content for others to see, according to Deloitte & Touche USA LLP. This marks a 12 point escalation from a prior survey commissioned by Deloitte in the spring of 2007, challenging the conventional assumption that online content creation is limited to a niche group of technology-savvy individuals.

The Dallas Morning News names the Illegal Immigrant as 2007 Texan of the Year.
The Dallas Morning News will name the illegal immigrant as its Texan of the Year in the paper’s Sunday, December 30 editions. The newspaper’s Editorial Board recognizes the myriad, profound ways in which this group of people impacts Texas, ranging from the economy to politics to the most basic sense of culture. Lamenting that “there seems to be little middle ground in [the] debate,” the Board notes that “spectacular fights over their presence … broke out across Texas this past year, adding to the national pressure cooker as only Texas can.”

Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS) announced that its employees and DJs from its MEGA 97.9 FM and Amor 93.1 FM radio stations will actively participate in the Seventh Annual Gladys Ricart and Victims of Domestic Violence Memorial Walk on Wednesday, September 26 in New York. The march organized by the New York Latinas Against Domestic Violence (NYLADV), intended to raise awareness about domestic violence against women. We applaud the SBS New York activism! We should have more of this type of involvement from all of the companies in our Industry. Encorage this type of behavior!
Diversity and Community in the Twenty-first Century.
Ethnic diversity is increasing in most advanced countries, driven mostly by sharp increases in immigration. In the long run immigration and diversity are likely to have important cultural, economic, fiscal, and developmental benefits. In the short run, however, immigration and ethnic diversity tend to reduce social solidarity and social capital.
New evidence from the US suggests that in ethnically diverse neighborhoods residents of all races tend to ‘hunker down’. Trust (even of one’s own race) is lower, altruism and community cooperation rarer, friends fewer. In the long run, however, successful immigrant societies have overcome such fragmentation by creating new, cross-cutting forms of social solidarity and more encompassing identities.
New America Alliance honors Hector and Norma Orcí.
Hector and Norma Orcí, Co-founders of La Agencia de Orcí & Asociados, have been selected by the New America Alliance (NAA) to receive The H. Frank Dominguez Philanthropists of the Year Award. Eddie ‘Piolin’ Sotelo delivers 1M letters to support Immigration Reform to Congress.
Radio personality Eddie “Piolin” Sotelo will hand deliver over one million letters signed by U.S. citizens and/or legal residents in support of the passage of a fair and just immigration reform bill this year to bi-partisan members of Congress. Piolin’s “Por la Reforma Migratoria con Piolin” campaign marks the first time that a letter writing campaign has generated such a large number of letters in support of immigration reform.
