Victor Del Corral of Victor’s Café passed away.

For all those agency, media and US Hispanic market professionals that enjoyed Victor’s cafe in New York and Miami, we all know that Victor was a true example of fulfilling the real American dream. Having arrived in New York in 1956, Victor introduced the concept of an evening of dining to New York’s upper West side, at a reasonable cost. He introduced America to Cuba’s staple dish of Rice and Beans, which became an immediate favorite with the New York public. He later moved the restaurant, in 1980 to its current address in the heart of the theatre district, where it still stands today at 236 West 52nd Street as a New York landmark.

446M watching TV on their cell phones by 2011.

IMS Research forecasts that by the end of 2011, nearly half a billion people will be watching TV on their cellular handsets. Driven primarily by the adoption of broadcast-based services such as DVB-H, mobile digital TV will experience 50% year-on-year growth through 2010.

Residential broadband grew 22% during 2005.

Twice a year the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) reports on the status of the high-speed Internet access sector in the US. The FCC defines a high-speed Internet connection as one greater than 200 kilobytes per second in at least one direction.

The July report shows that there were 7.7 million new residential broadband subscribers in 2005, equating to a growth rate of 21.8% from a year earlier. The report reveals there were 4.3 million new ADSL subscribers compared with 3.4 million new cable Internet subscribers.

Performers’ unions & advertising Industry agree on extension of commercials contracts.

Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) and the advertising industry’s ANA/AAAA Joint Policy Committee on Broadcast Talent Union Relations (JPC) today announced a tentative agreement on a two-year extension to the Commercials Contracts that cover advertisements appearing on TV, radio, the Internet and new media, that would run through October 29, 2008. The extension agreement must now be ratified by both unions’ joint national board and approved by both union memberships through a joint referendum, as well as approved by the boards of both ANA and AAAA.
