The cell phone has become an integral and, for some, essential communications tool that has helped owners gain help in emergencies. Fully 74% of the Americans who own mobile phones say they have used their hand-held device in an emergency and gained valuable help.

The Association of Hispanic Advertising Agencies (AHAA) announced the transition of leadership to new Chairman Carl Kravetz, chairman/chief strategic officer of cruz/kravetz:IDEAS and the election of Chair-Elect Jackie Bird, president/CEO of winglatino. The AHAA Board of Directors created and approved a new board seat, Vice Chair, to ensure continuity in the association leadership and Jose López-Varela, vice president/managing director of abecé was elected to the position.

Nissan launches ‘El Reto Final Nissan’.

For the first time ever, U.S. and Mexico soccer fans will get a chance to relive old memories with “El Reto Final Nissan”, a five-part reality show and a one-of-a-kind soccer match that will crown North America’s ultimate champion once and for all. The groundbreaking reality series will air exclusively in Spanish on Fox Sports en Español, starting on Sunday, April 16 at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m PT. The historic rematch, which will take place at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California on Sunday, May 21, will be telecasted live in Spanish by Fox Sports en Español and in English on Fox Soccer Channel.

AHAA honors Pro Bono Campaigns.

The Association of Hispanic Advertising Agencies (AHAA) announced it will be recognizing 16 member Hispanic advertising agencies for their pro bono work valued at more than $12.1 million for more than 25 media campaigns during its semi-annual conference titled “AHAA Knows Latinos: Insights on Media Behavior” in Los Angeles from April 5th-7th, 2006.

Lexus Retains Nobox as its Hispanic Interactive Agency.

Nobox announced the launch of www.lexus.com/espanol. The unprecedented Web site makes Lexus the first luxury automotive brand to consider the growing market of Hispanics in the US and bring them a tailored Web site. The launch of the site is being supported with a strategic online media campaign in Spanish-language portals that include Yahoo!, Univision and Terra.

Hispanic Women Are Taking Charge of the Grill.

During the grilling season, 42 percent of Hispanics fire up their grills at least once per week. Yet it is women who are significantly more likely than men to grill out at least three times per week (23 percent compared to 14 percent). Surprisingly, 36 percent of Hispanics say women primarily do the grilling in the household (compared to 42 percent for men), which varies greatly from Americans overall where 17 percent of women primarily do the grilling.
