David Bisbal & Jessica Simpson To Open 5th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards.

The Latin Recording Academy announced that the winner of the 4th Annual Latin GRAMMY for Best New Artist and current nominee David Bisbal and multi-platinum recording artist Jessica Simpson will electrify the stage with an amazing opening duet on the 5th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards Sept. 1 airing live on the CBS Television Network from 8 – 10 p.m. (ET/PT).

National Tejano Music Convention @ Las Vegas.

The National Tejano Music Convention & Vegas Revue is scheduled for August 13-15 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Over 2,500 delegates will be in attendance.

Michel Camilo Wins JazzWeek ‘Artist of the Year’.

Latin jazz pianist and composer Michel Camilo was named “Artist of the Year” at the annual JazzWeek Awards held Saturday, June 5 in Rochester, N.Y.

Santana To Be Honored @ 2004 Latin Recording Academy.

Internationally renowned Arista recording artist Carlos Santana will be honored as the 2004 Latin Recording Academy Person Of The Year. The honor recognizes Santana’s professional, cultural and social accomplishments. Santana will receive the 2004 Latin Recording Academy Person Of The Year honor on Aug. 30, 2004, at a star-studded tribute dinner and concert at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the MusiCares Foundation.

History Of The Mariachi.

Prior to the arrival of Cortes the music of Mexico, played with rattles, drums, reed and clay flutes, and conch-shell horns, was an integral part of religious celebrations. Quickly, however, as Christianity spread, in many areas these instruments gave way to instruments imported by the Spanish: violins, guitars and harps, brass horns, and woodwinds. The Indian and mestizo musicians not only learned to play European instruments, but also to build their own, sometimes giving them shapes and tunings of their own invention.

Latin Grammys On September 1, 2004.

The Latin Recording Academy announced that its celebration of the 5th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will take place on September 1 and will originate from Los Angeles’ landmark Shrine Auditorium. The show – which features performances from some of the genre’s most important and exciting artists – will broadcast on the CBS Television Network from 9-11 p.m. (ET/PT). In addition to its U.S. broadcast, the 5th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will be broadcast in approximately 100 countries worldwide.
