Jose Chavez “J-Si” is the latest crew member of the syndicated morning show Kidd Kraddik in the Morning. Born in Mexico City, JC moved to California in 1991. He had aspirations of becoming a nurse until he accidentally fell into radio working as an intern in San Diego. He liked it so much he decided to make it a career. A couple of years ago he got picked up by the Kidd Kraddik in the Morning show, moved to Dallas and since has obtained great popularity among listeners, especially Hispanics who identify with and admire him. Univision withholds PPM encoding.

According to Inside Radio, Univision stations in Miami, Phoenix and San Diego have received PPM pre-currency reports. But something was noticeably absent — data regarding stations owned by outspoken PPM critic Univision. Frustrated with the pace of improvement, it has refused to encode.

Federal Communications Commission to initiate inquiry into PPM.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has initiate an inquiry into whether Arbitron’s deployment of its new audience measurement system, the portable people meter (PPM), was undermining the Commission’s efforts to promote media diversity and expand ownership opportunities for businesses owned by people of color.

According to Inside Radio, Univision Radio has decided not to sell advertisers and agencies with the use of Arbitron Personal People Meter (PPM) ratings data.

The reasons are simple. inaccurate and biased ratings that reflect the listenership of Hispanic formatted radio stations.

Eduardo Caballero to be honored with Medalla de Cortez Radio Award.

Radio Ink magazine has just announced that legendary Hispanic Radio pioneer and veteran Eduardo Caballero will be bestowed the Medalla de Cortez award for the Hispanic Broadcaster of the Year.

Mr. Caballero will be on the cover of the May 4, 2009 issue of Radio Ink, the issue is being dedicated to the Hispanic Radio Industry.

Changes at Spanish Broadcasting System.

Frank Flores has been named the Chief Revenue Officer of Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS). Mr. Flores will continue to manage the SBS New York radio stations WSKQ-FM and WPAT-FM.

Marko Radlovic moves from Chief Operating Officer to SVP/GM of SBS’s Los Angeles radio stations.

Industry insiders also speculate that Mr. Radlovic will be involved in SBS’s soon to be annouced new television venture, when Mega-TV programming will be appearing very soon on NBC’s KWHY-TV in Los Angeles.
