‘El Cucuy’ Joins SBS KLAX-FM in LA.

Renan Almendarez Coello, “El Cucuy”, will return to his original morning time slot, 5 a.m. to 11 a.m., on Monday, March 22, 2004 — but on a different station — KLAX (97.9 FM), La Raza, the flagship Los Angeles station of Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc.

According to Radio & Record, “Univision Radio’s Regional Mexican KSCA/Los Angeles has replaced afternooner Renan Almendarez Coello, known as “El Cucuy de la Tarde,” with former KHOT/Phoenix midday air talent David Palacios, a.k.a. “El Gatillero.” Palacios. Univision would not confirm that Almendarez has been let go from the company. However, R&R hears that Almendarez is reportedly in talks with SBS”.

The Absence Of ‘El Cucuy de la Tarde’ Could Hurt Univision Radio.

According to Radio & Records magazine on Monday March 8, 2004, ” Merrill Lynch analyst Jessica Reif Cohen issued a report Friday that addresses the indefinite suspension of KSCA (La Nueva 101.9)/Los Angeles afternoon host Renan Almendarez Coello, known as “El Cucuy de la Tarde.” Cohen believes that until a dispute between Coello and Univision Radio concerning the wages of his show’s “Tropa Loca” is resolved, Univision will continue to air best-of programs, which would result in advertiser cancellations.
