Luis Patiño has been appointed Senior Vice President for the Univision Television Group at Univision Communications Inc.

Telemundo Media announced that Alina Falcon has been named Senior Executive Vice President, News and Alternative Programming and will start in early December.

Vme announced the appointment of media veteran, Alvaro Garnica as general manager.

Vme announced that Carmen DiRienzo, president and CEO, has stepped down from her position effective at the end of this year (December 31, 2011). She will continue to serve on the Board of Directors for Vme Media, Inc. as an independent director, will support the company in its transition to new management and will also continue to manage select projects.

Univision Communications Inc. announced the appointment of Ignacio Meyer as vice president, Business Development. Meyer will be responsible for developing and building brand extensions and business opportunities for clients.

I recently read an article in another of the Latin American Market focused trade journals that interviewed a US Hispanic Marketing Director at the client level and two mayor New York Hispanic Agency based Media Planning Executives with most of their experience in mainstream advertising and Latin America respectively to give their opinions about the US Hispanic Market.

TV can do a lot of great things for brands but it can also make you impotent–and I can assure you that I did not intend to spell “important.”  And that is what one is led to conclude after reading some of the reports coming out of last week’s beer distributors’ convention in Las Vegas.
