Telemundo beefs up research capabilities.

Telemundo Communications Group announced that it is unveiling The Pulse Research Center, a state-of-the-art research facility at Universal City Walk in Los Angeles. In addition, Telemundo has subscribed to IAG Research, making it the first Spanish-language network client of IAG, offering advertisers and clients new comprehensive nation-wide research solutions in time for the 2008-2009 Upfront season.

LATV adds New York, Chicago and Dallas.

LATV announced a distribution partnership with Tribune Broadcasting, bringing major stations in New York, Chicago and Dallas into its affiliate fold. The addition of the number-one, number-three and number-six designated market areas (DMA) places LATV in front of nine million additional television households.

Televisa vs. Univision trial delayed till July 1, 2008.

Based on the request of both Televisa and Univision, the trial that was set to commence today has been postponed until July 1, 2008. Could it be that there is a back room deal being negotiated?

Spanish Broadcasting System hosts first Upfront for Mega TV.

Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. (SBS) announced that it had hosted its first network “Upfront” presentation for MEGA TV. At the event, which was held in New York City, Company executives announced that Mega TV had entered into a programming distribution agreement with a new major market affiliate serving Puerto Rico. In addition, the Company unveiled its new programming initiatives, featuring original proprietary content produced by its recently-inaugurated Megafilms subsidiary, which will supplement the high quality fare currently airing on MEGA TV.

Mega TV Puerto Rico names Roldan VP & GM.

Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS)announced that Luis Roldan was named Senior Vice President and General Manager of MEGA TV in Puerto Rico. Mr. Roldan will oversee the retransmission of Mega TV on WSJU-TV (Channel 30).

Nielsen to report ratings for ESPN Deportes.

The Nielsen Company and ESPN Deportes, ESPN’s 24-hour Spanish-language sports network in the U.S., announced that they have reached an agreement to report program ratings in Nielsen’s U.S. Hispanic cable service, known as the Nielsen Homevideo Index Hispanic (NHIH) Service.

Does Televisa + Univision = Television.

The month of April may portend a revolutionary or at least an evolutionary change in the landscape and structure of the US Spanish language television industry.

Barring an unlikely settlement or a request for extension of the scheduled court date on April 29th, Grupo Televisa, the Mexican based multimedia and entertainment company and world’s largest producer of Spanish language television will have its day in court regarding its former partner Univision, the leading Spanish language media company in the US.
