Verizon announced two new marketing campaigns aimed at Hispanic phone customers to generate awareness of the company’s new unlimited calling plan and its DSL high-speed Internet access service. Both campaigns were created by La Agencia de Orcí & Asociados.

Univision deal must close by August 26, 2007.
According to Radio Business Reports, that’s the furthest extension provided for in the sale documents now filed with the SEC for Haim Saban’s Umbrella Acquisition to close its purchase of Univision Communications. Among other details, Saban’s group has to pay Univision a half billion if it can’t get the regulatory approvals necessary to close the deal. Meanwhile, the filing confirms that Univision will have to pay Saban’s group a 300 million break-up fee should Televisa or anyone else come up with a new offer to beat the 13.7 billion bid that was accepted.
Task force set to unveil electronic trading system.
An ad industry task force exploring the development of a controversial online trading system for buying and selling traditional media is set to announce preliminary details as soon as today, executives involved in the discussions said. The next phase, they said, would focus on quelling concerns of big media companies such as the major television networks that participating in the electronic trading system will not “commoditize” the value of their medium and drive down prices for their advertising inventory.

21st Imagen Awards honorees in film & television.
A number of popular Latino actors were honored at the 21st Annual Imagen Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Hosted by Lorenzo Lamas, sixteen awards were presented in categories including film and television, plus The Imagen Foundation presented five additional awards including Creative Achievement, Lifetime Achievement, President’s Award, the Norman Lear Award, and the Foundation’s first National Leadership Award. The Imagen Awards were established in 1985 to encourage and recognize the positive portrayal of Latinos in all media and to increase Latino representation at all levels of the entertainment industry.

IAB announces a distinct Hispanic category for the MIXX Awards.
The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and the IAB Hispanic Committee announced the addition of a separate category for the MIXX Awards focused specifically on Interactive advertising targeted towards the Hispanic community. The addition of this new category is part of an ongoing effort by IAB’s Hispanic Committee to further educate advertisers and agencies on the marketing benefits and value of using Interactive to reach the Hispanic community.

Creative ad awards honor Hispanic print media campaigns.
