Private equity investment can play a critical role in promoting job growth, higher wages, better benefits and overall economic development in the nation’s growing minority communities, according to a new study released by the National Association of Investment Companies (NAIC).

RTNDA: Less Hispanic in Broadcasting.

The percentage of women working in local television and radio news reached a new high, according to the RTNDA/Hofstra survey of Women and Minorities in local news. The survey also showed that the percentage of journalists of color working in local radio and television news fell, led by a 10 percent drop in the number of Hispanic staff working for Hispanic television stations.

Consumer Confidence Index Rises.

Consumers’ hopes for an end to the Global Economic Crisis have been bolstered in the 2nd Quarter 2009, according to a Nielsen Global Consumer Confidence Survey. The Nielsen Global Consumer Confidence Index, conducted in 28 markets in June 2009, rose to 82 – an increase of 5 points (from 77) from March 2009 – spurred by renewed consumer optimism and stock market gains in BRIC markets (Brazil, Russia, India, China) and key Asian countries.

Racial disparities in unemployment vary widely by state.

The labor market crisis is breaking national records each month, with no end in sight. The heaviest burden is falling on blacks and Hispanics, who are contending with much higher unemployment rates than whites nationally—about one-and-a-half times as high for Hispanics and twice as high for blacks.
