Mujer Dominicana en Nueva York exhibit.

Beginning August 19th through September 30th, 2008, Dominican Republic-based foodservice company MercaSID and its brand, Aceite Cristol, will unveil Proyecto “MUJER Dominicana en Nueva York” (The Dominican Women‚s Project in New York), a major photo exhibition highlighting the lives and achievements of Dominican women across the Diaspora.

Miller Group AOR for Museum of Latin American Art.

The Museum of Latin American Art (molaa) in Long Beach, CA selected The Miller Group as its agency of record (AOR), commencing with a re-branding effort. The effort consists of advertising, PR and interactive to drive traffic and membership to the museum. Advertising focuses on cable TV (throughout the LA ADI), outdoor, print and interactive, and features the museum’s exhibit “Wifredo Lam in North America and Carlos Luna: El Gran Mambo.”

A Dominicano conquers La-La Land.

It’s not every day that you see Caribbean and L.A. in the same sentence but Junot Diaz, a young, MIT professor from the Dominican Republic, is making waves in “Mexican” L.A. Diaz, the New Jersey-raised writer who was awarded this year’s Pulitzer for fiction, for his first novel “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao,” must have a lot of fans in L.A. Diaz’s book, which has made it on numerous bestseller lists across the country–including the New York Times’ list, has been on the L.A. Times bestseller list for the past 20 weeks.

HarperEntertainment, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, announced the acquisition of an autobiography by boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya. Teatro Stage Fest in NYC.

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and the Latino International Theatre Festival of New York, Inc. announced the launch of TeatroStageFest, a two week theater festival showcasing the sights and sounds of award-winning theatre companies, performers, playwrights and directors from New York City, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain. The festival, which will run from April 30 through May 13, 2007, is expected to draw more than 5,000 theater-goers at seven venues in the emerging Fourth Arts Block of the East Fourth Street Cultural District and surrounding areas creating New York’s own Calle Cuatro.

Puerto Rican Poetry anthology covers new ground.

In January, the University of Massachusetts Press published “Puerto Rican Poetry: An Anthology from Aboriginal to Contemporary Times,” edited and translated by Roberto Marquez, William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of Latin American and
Caribbean Studies at Mount Holyoke College.

Museo de Arte de Ponce exhibits at Worcester Art Museum.

Beginning October 8th, Worcester Art Museum provides to its visitors with a wide-ranging overview of the three most important artists of Puerto Rico José Campeche y Jordán (1715-1809), Francisco Oller y Cestero (1833-1917) and Miguel Pou y Becerra (1880-1968). The exhibition titled Mi Puerto Rico: Master Painters of the Island, 1780-1952 was curated by Marimar Benitez, Director, School of Fine Arts, San Juan, Puerto Rico and Cheryl Hartup, Chief Curator of Museo de Arte de Ponce and comprises 47 works of art from public and private collections, of which 16 are form MAP.
