Reliant Energy and its Hispanic advertising agency of record, Lopez Negrete Communications, are driving a creative breakthrough in Spanish-language advertising with the launch of a new 2005 television and radio campaign for the Texas retail electric provider. The campaign is a first in the industry to feature English-language music in advertising targeting Spanish- speaking customers.

According to ADrants.com, to persuade Mexican men not to illegally consume turtles’ eggs which they believe to be aphrodisiacs, the California-based group Wildcoast has launched an ad campaign featuring models with bulging breasts with the headline, “My man does not need turtle eggs because he knows they don’t make him more potent.” Unfortunately, few women are as hot as those found in models and, correctly or incorrectly, some men may feel the need for a little boost with sexual arousal.

General Motors Corp. and Latino Art Beat announced that five students from different cities won local “What Hispanic/Latino Heritage and Culture Mean to Me!” art contests and will go on to compete for the national grand prize of a $10,000 scholarship and a chance to have his artwork appear in GM’s Hispanic Heritage Month advertising.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) announced the schedule and panelists for their annual two-day Public Policy Conference on September 12 and 13 at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C. This conference is part of their week of activities during Hispanic Heritage Month with “CHCI: Leadership for America’s Future” as their theme.

The total number of television households within the U.S. (including Alaska and Hawaii) is now estimated at 110,200,000, according to Nielsen Media Research. These estimates, which are projected to January 1, 2006, will be used for the entire 2005-2006 television season. Nielsen also reported today that the number of ethnic television homes in the U.S. has increased significantly since last year, and because of more people migrating to the South and Western regions of the U.S., Nielsen is reporting many shifts in its local market rankings.
Students Read To Win Seats @ Univision’s “Premios Juventud” Awards.
Univision’s “Premios Juventud” (Youth Awards) honors the biggest names in Latin entertainment, fashion and sports. The event will be held at the University of Miami’s Convocation Center on Thursday, September 22 and this year, 400 Miami-Dade County Public High School Spanish-language students will get the opportunity to watch the show live by participating in a reading contest.
